Royals Rumble 3v3 Basketball Tournament

The Royals Rumble is back for another year!

The Royals Rumble is an open 3v3 basketball tournament on November 29th from 4pm to 7pm in the New Westminster Gym, and all skill levels are welcome. Prizes will be handed out for the tournament winners as well as best dressed, best sportspersonship, and best team spirit. The theme is Space Jam, so get creative!

Basketball Game Structure:

  • There will be a captain for each team, as well as the team name.
  • This is going to be a self-refereeing game, but if there are conflicts, these can be mediated through event organizers.
  • Team matches will be structured in a pool play for the preliminary rounds to determine playoff bracket seeding tournament within their designated pools (format may change depending on the number of registrations).

Pool A - intermediate skill level
Pool B - beginner skill level

Game Rules:

  • Each match will occur for 22 minutes in total (2 x 10-minute halves with a 2-minute break during half-time).
  • Half court
  • No breaks after scoring, but substitutes can be implemented only when the game is stopped.
  • Teams of 3 players + 2 subs.
  • Flip a coin or "rock paper scissors" for 1st check ball.

  • Inside the arc = 1 point, Outside the arc = 2 points.
  • Basketball must be cleared by the team before attempting to shoot, and points will be invalid if the ball is not cleared.
  • Advance the ball by passing or dribbling only.
  • If a player with possession of the ball stops dribbling and then continues before passing or shooting, this will be a “double dribble,” and the opposing team gets the ball.
  • The offense has five seconds to inbound the ball when clearing the ball.

  • Teams will call their own fouls
  • Illegal contact with a shooter results in a foul, which leads to the fouled player with a free throw.
  • Personal foul: contact that impedes an opposing player in the act of shooting. Charging foul: an offensive player makes contact with a defensive player who has planted their feet in a locked position.
  • In the event of this, players line up on the key box, alternating team players. If the shot is missed = a live ball. If the shot is made = switch possession.
  • Finally, teams can call for an event official if required.
